Either you love it so much you will do it every year or, it ’s just going to be once in a lifetime sort of experience.
I have had two such experiences so far, where I loved one and not so much the other. There is no doubt that both will forever make me laugh and something I will always remember.
Zipline in Lyon, France: A few years back, My family and I went to France for the summer holidays. While I will always cherish the memories from that trip, one of the best memories was the day at zipline which was located in a thick forest on a mountain. The location was stunning and we could even see the city from certain stop points, it was amazing!
I was initially scared when I climbed to a platform on a tall tree and then walking on ropes from one tall tree to the other. Each hurdle had different activities to tackle and one of the toughest for me was rock climbing. I mean a rock climbing wall on a tree! But trying to overcome each hurdle with my sisters together was so much fun. I would definitely do it again in a heartbeat.
A Trapeze Class: This is the craziest thing I have done so far. About two years ago, I saw a video on Instagram of someone doing trapeze at a trapeze school in New York. I liked the video so much that I immediately went online to research the place and before I knew it, I had booked a class. After booking my class, just to make sure, I rewatched the video multiple times, and it looked so easy and fun, I could not wait for my class.
When I reached the venue, which was on the rooftop of a building overlooking the Hudson River, deep down in my heart I knew I made a mistake. First, the venue was already at a height, and second, the platform where you have to swing from was 22 feet high, I wanted to run away immediately. But I stuck around to avoid the shameful walk back. To begin my turn, I had to climb a ladder made of ropes to reach the platform. Yes, the 22 feet high platform! The ladder was all wobbly, and that made me more nervous. As soon as I got to the top, I felt dizzy looking down and around. I tried my best to avoid looking down.
Once I had positioned my self at the edge platform, with the help of an instructor, I was told to hold the platform pillar with one hand and the bar with the other The bar was so heavy, it nearly pulled me down. I was then told to jump and hang from the bar, swing once, and then attempt to put my legs in between my hands and on top of the bar. So sort of like hanging from the bar via my legs!
As soon as I jumped, I felt as if I had jumped off a plane. I couldn’t even dare to attempt doing anything else other than holding the bar and closing my eyes! I eventually let go and fell down to a secure place. I was glad my turn was over, even if it was for the time being. The class was a two-hour session and we had about 7 turns each.
I must say, towards the last few attempts, I was not scared, and did manage to have fun. I, however, never got to hang from my legs.
I don’t know if it ’s because I am bad at trapeze or the initial sickness of being at a height, I am not sure I can do trapeze again. Having said that, I am actually very glad I did give a try and wouldn’t trade that experience for anything else. I also highly recommend it to my friends because it was worth all the nervousness. It ’s always nice to try unexpected things once in a while, and I am looking forward to more such experiences in life. Currently high on my list is Kayaking!
