Here are some of my mother’s advice…
- Have at least 3 dates every day. Before school, she would always give us 3 dates to eat.
- Have fruits every day. Fruits after dinner was a must in our house. She was so sweet that she would peel and cut it for my sisters and me to eat, only to be met with us pulling faces. :(
- Wash your face. She wouldn’t give us breakfast unless we had washed our face.
-Brush your hair every day. I remember my mother once telling me while we were on Skype why I hadn’t brushed my hair. I told her I was alone she said, I have to look clean and tidy whether alone or not.
- Don’t pluck eyebrows in your teenage years. She didn’t let us pluck our eyebrows till we started college. I am so grateful for this because I still have my thick brows.
- Exercise every day. We used to do 20 sit-ups every morning before we would get dressed for school.
- Get some sunlight and fresh air. She would push us out of the door so we could play in the sun and get some sunlight. And all I wanted to do was to watch TV indoors.
- Take care of your eyes. We were not allowed to sit in in front of the computer for more than an hour at a stretch. She always said we should take a break to relax our eyes. She was very particular about good eyesight and never let us sit close to the TV or watch it in the dark. She would also encourage us to wash our eyes every day.
