I read this article a few days ago and decided to change my approach to how I spend my time in a museum. To make most of the visit, I will view one or two installations at a time. That way I will be able to give more time to each art rather than rushing and trying to view everything in one day. Yesterday, for the first time I did not rush and only viewed one exhibition: Robert Gober.
I really liked Robert Gober’s work titled ‘The Heart is Not a Metaphor’. The exhibition includes 130 sculptures of various sizes largely made out of beeswax and human hair. RG’s work has almost the feel of Dali’s paintings because of its surrealistic nature. It is strange yet fascinating and done with precision. He shapes the beeswax into legs or a chest and then uses human hair to make them hairy. And the human hair is used in such a way that it looks like its growing from the wax (just like how we have hair on our legs). It is all brilliantly done and you have to view to better understand and appreciate. Oh, and by the way MOMA offers free admission to the general public every Friday from 4pm - 8pm.
