This Concrete Mosque is A Work of Art

How stunning is this mosque? I love mosques that are beauttifully decorated with floral motifs but this simple concrete one is my new favourite. With its wooden dome and 99 smaller concrete domes, it looks so serene and beautiful.

Lead architect Angelo Candalepas was first commissioned to design the mosque in the mid-1990s by the non-profit organization, Australian Islamic Mission (AIM). The domes are a modern reference to muqarnas, an honored form of ornamented vaulting in traditional Islamic architecture. In keeping with tradition, the domes will be inscribed with the 99 names of God in gold calligraphy.

The mosque was photographed by London-based architectural photographer Rory Gardiner.
